Dahmer - Netflix

I just find it so hard to digest that they could have these suspicions and early warning signs and not really act on it!

like the smell in the grandma’s house etc (if that’s not fiction?). I can’t say I’ve ever smelt a rotting corpse or death but those types of signs and his strange being

Maybe they were just genuinely blinded by their love for child / grandchild or perhaps unconsciously ignored stuff because they were scared of the truth, but really? 😭

again going off the series but it doesn't even come across like he went to a great extent to cover his tracks after the first few (like in the grandmas basement etc)

Oh thank goodness there's a thread here.

I've fancied Evan Peters since the first season of American Horror Story. I also like his acting. I knew I'd be watching this.

I'm on episode 6 (silenced) and for duck sake, I'm getting all the feels for a man depicting a bleeping serial killer. Tell me I'm not alone. Why is he so sexy 🤦‍♀️

I've seen interviews with the real Dahmer and he's not remotely hot so I can rest assured I'm not totally immoral.

Oh god I’m the opposite, I always fancied Evan a bit but in this role I find him quite repulsive! So he’s doing a good job as Dahmer in my book lol. That episode Silenced was incredible, so well put together. I wish more of the series had that format with victims back stories. Maybe it would have been better received that way.

Indeed. You really connected with Tony and it felt like a real nod to the victim here (as opposed to the rest of the episodes which focuses on Dahmer and generating empathy for him - which is so problematic in itself).

I know it's not fully true to real events but it appears Dahmer has a real severe fear of abandonment. He doesn't want people to leave him (seems his mother did) and hence takes drastic measures to ensure they stay. I'd love to read more about him, it's all so twisted.

Apparently she didn't let anyone touch him when he was a baby only to change him. I find that weird. All babies need affection. I'm not saying that's the sole cause but I'm sure alot of his early experiences must have shaped him. I find it all so sad if I'm honest. Sad for the victims, their families and sad that a little innocent baby grew up to be an absolute monster.

Wow what a watch. I had never heard of Dahmer so did not know the story but Evan Peters was phenomenal in the role.

For those speaking about John Wayne Gacy, there is a documentary on Netflix called The John Wayne Gacy tapes which is equally chilling. How these two serial killers got away with their horrific crimes for all that time I will never understand.

Only made it through episode 2 but this happened in my home town, literally four miles from where I'm sat right now and I'm not sure if I can finish it. It's so gruesome and just hard to imagine and even harder to watch. This isn't the safest city by any measure (fair bit of gun violence, a troubling amount of domestic violence) but in general it has a very "small town" vibe and it's quite disconcerting to see it in this light, and to imagine people the world over seeing Milwaukee this way. Though I'm not disappointed in how poorly the Milwaukee Police Department is apparently depicted because frankly, that hasn't changed.

I'm the only one in my family that's been able to watch it at all as I was too young to know what was going on at the time and have no memories. My parents had to wrangle my brother away from every TV he came across because everyone was airing the live trial and he was transfixed by it (and only seven, frankly I don't feel mature enough to hear about it at nearly 34), and my grandparents worked at the courthouse where the trial was held and near where many of the vigils and protests were held. My uncle was a gay man in the same "scene" at the time and met him once or twice. Luckily for him, too much of a family connection and not vulnerable or a person of color so he escaped the violence but it's still scary.

One of the journalists that broke the story when police first started combing his apartment for evidence did a talk at a library today and my friend was going to see, I wonder if she'll have anything new to add. I know that there was a lot of complaint about it not being very factual, but there's a documentary coming out this week as well so. Time will tell.

When I was in college we actually discussed a paper on Jeff. If you Google Jeffreh Dahmer neglect it will come up !

It's fascinating to us all. How would he have turned out if he had a loving family ? A lot of psychopaths confide in family and friends that don't feel empathy etc. Jeff had no chance in life. He didn't have a support system. Physical touch is so important in the early years of childhood and he was neglected.

Pretty much any study or patient I met that had mental health issues and was extremely violent was neglected as a child but you do meet some who are not.

I met 2 children who where 100% psychopaths and had no history if neglect. These kids constantly have tantrums. Zero empathy. They are extremely manipulative and will apologise so quick to try gain people on their side. They are so charming. One of these children I saw had harmed an animal. She was 9.

Psychopaths tend to be so charismatic. When they're in their teen years it can go either way. Push themselves to do well.. some will get in with a wrong crowd and end up going down a bad way.. I think Jeff finally experiencing friendship then being ditched played a massive part in his unfortunate life. Finally finding people and then it's taken from him again.

Omg this!!! Iv been so confused with myself over this thinking there’s something wrong with me. I don’t remotely fancy Dahmer in real life but Evan playing him I do. Do I need therapy?!

This thread is making me regret not becoming a psychiatrist. I would love to be a forensic psychiatrist. Maybe when I'm older 😂

So a mother murdered 2 of her children in a fire. A brother murdered 3 of his siblings. And now this. All in around 6 weeks in ireland.

Not yet finished and not yet caught up with this thread - but do you guys reckon the Nan knew? Surely she did?!

Also why did I find the scene where he’s in the neighbour’s apartment SO stressful when we know she was fine as it was a flashback!

I don’t get that at all. Did she actually have azheimers ?

I know he killed people in her house but did he really keep the corpses ? It's not a scent you would miss. It really is the worst smell in the world.

She had Alzheimer’s at the point they raided her house, and he’d gone from living with her to the army to returning for a week (?) then moving out… so guessing there was at least a year or two between him living + offending at hers to the final arrest? Not sure how quickly these things come on and if she’d have been 100% present prior, but her caring for that drugged victim suggests she was somewhat there…?

I believe he was dissolving them so I’d assume that the bodies would be disposed of relatively quickly, but idk how no one smelt the chemicals?! Like if I spritz the kitchen sides with a bit of flash I can smell it for a few hours after, how can you have human dissolving acid and no one asks what is the smell?!

Yes very odd and lionel would be visiting 👀 all very odd. Nothing like John Wayne Gacy who would have no visitors - sure wasn't the final straw that a police officer smelt the smell of flesh from his bathroom
