Gav reminds me of a cartoon character called Fat Albert. I think it was only shown in America in the 1970s and it was created by Bill Cosby (🤢🤢🤢) but I’ve seen clips of it on a Cosby documentary and everytime I see Gav that’s all I can see

Fat Albert was hugely popular down here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 like most of Bill Cosbys work, it's not deemed inappropriate🤢
 
The problem with the character Max is they have tried way too hard to make him into another teenage David platt but it just doesn’t work. David Platt is one of the best characters and Jack the actor who plays David is a very good actor ever since he was a little kid so it’s very hard to compare to him especially the teenage years of David some of the best episodes ever on coronation street were made during that time.

The up and down relationship between Gail and David was brilliant to watch throughout all those years but it just doesn’t work the same between David and Max. The actor who plays Max isn’t a good actor a lot of the time and also I don’t know if the actor is gay in real life or just naturally is soft spoken and feminine mannerisms and either way there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! but if you’re trying to create this bad boy tough character it’ll be harder to do that when you have an actor who doesn’t come across like that.

I know if they keep Max as just this nice unproblematic kid then obviously people will get bored of that cause he needs storylines plus they clearly have hoped they’d have a Gail and David thing all over again with David and Max but I feel like they shouldn’t of brought Max back until they figured out what kind of character he would work best as. Is he just going to be the nice guy who gets easily led all the time cause there’s only so long that can work before things get repetitive.

I’m sure the writers have never met teenage boys before. Gav is just weird, like seriously weird over acting and grimacing. Not remotely the behaviour or mannerisms of a lad who’s in/just out of prison.
And the actor that plays Max, I don’t see him as a good fit for the character they want him to be. The weird soft, whiny voice just doesn’t work and I just don’t like him.

I don’t think they’ve got many of the young actors right in the last few years. New Aadi, Asha, Sam, Dylan, Jacob, Amy, Kelly, Hope are mostly quite good. Summer and her boyfriend, Simon, Ruby, Jack, Harry, Max, Gav are terrible.

A lot of things Max has done has nothing to do with him being easily led as he did them off his own back e.g. spiking drinks, upskirting etc. His previous pupil/teacher relationship with Daniel was mainly him constantly giving Daniel a hard time and harassing him

Before the far right extremism storyline every time he did something wrong he was allowed to get away with it and the response to these things were usually “he’s a good boy really”

Now he has a black girlfriend and because the extremism wasn’t against black people it’s like that’s ok then he can now be redeemed

I don’t find him very likeable and I don’t think he’s coming across as the bad boy they obviously want him to. I agree the way he talks is odd, it’s like he puts the emphasis on the wrong words. He talks really slowly as if the cogs are turning and he has to speak that way in order to remember what to say

Yeah you’re right! A lot he’s done is not cause he’s been easily led but I feel like they don’t know what to do with his character one minute he’s doing bad things next minute he’s learned his lesson and now is portrayed as the apologetic nice kid so it’s confusing are they trying to make him a tough a bad boy still or not I think they try too hard with his character they don’t know what to do with him. I honestly have forgot a lot of his storylines cause I just find him boring.

Yeah exactly now he’s dating a black girl it’s like they want to portray him as redeeming himself but to go from the far right extremism storyline to now this guy who’s turning his life around it just all feels rushed like they desperately want him to be the next David Platt one minute causing trouble but at least with David it was consistent he was a troublemaker and had this evil streak then he would have his nice funny moments then causing trouble again but it worked.

To be honest if they wanted to go down the bad boy route they should of recasted him cause maybe then it could of worked with a different actor cause I don’t think Max is the right character to do storylines like this with.

They already recasted him from the previous actor to this one so they must have thought he was capable of playing a ‘bad boy’. Not sure why. I wonder how bad the other actors were if they thought he was the best of the bunch at the audition

I wish they’d just get rid of him.
Nothing they try with him really works, and some of it has been just very annoying.
The character has no real depth or screen presence, I can’t stand him.

I love David Platt, has had some great storylines and some of his one liners have been excellent over the years but I love how he refers to his mum as Gail 😂
 
The character max is a problem, but can I just say that the actress who is playing his new girlfriend (sorry I have forgotten her name 🤔) is a brilliant addition. Intelligent and well informed. I also think she has the capacity to do comedy as well as serious. I hope they perhaps keep her and max together and go down the story line of him turning his life around and dare I say it become successful teenagers, rather than the bratty and usual pitfalls that soaps throw teenagers into. Maybe then the actor who plays max May grow in his own skin?!

As for a billy I do find him a sexual creep!

I agree about Billy!!! I’ve always thought that! 🤢
Also I do like Max’s new girlfriend too, she seems sweet and a breath of fresh air
