Chloe - BBC

I found liv so unlikeable. Somehow she manages to look after 2 kids (one with a disability) go to the spa on a Saturday, run a business, attend work functions, and also has time to host dinner party's/lunches. How is that possible? It's not relatable. Also at the end when she says to Becky this caravan is disgusting! Am I the only one that thought it was great? That view!
Josh was hot and I felt a bit sorry for him being messed around by Becky, even after he didn't tell on her or anything, and he still wanted her to go to London with him! She wasn't that much of a catch.

I’ve just finished the series (no spoilers I promise) and overall found it one of the best dramas the BBC has produced recently. It was (on the whole) well acted, scripted and edited. The story really spoke to me on a personal level, regarding rejection and the effect it has on your perception of self. Becky defined herself based on being an obsessive “loser” according to things that were done to her while she tried to maintain a friendship with Chloe. She accepted the rejection and it coloured how she viewed herself, despite being accepted by Liv and her crew afterwards. It delves deeply into issues of marginalisation and class, and ultimately I think she triumphed, in not only discovering her own worth but also helping Chloe.

Yeah I agree that Josh was willing to bend over backwards for Becky when she’d treated him so badly. But he obviously saw something about himself in her. What I didn’t get was
how Liv so easily found the caravan?

I finished watching this last night and I agree it was a great drama. Becky was a flawed character and the first few episodes I couldn’t get the measure of her. I wasn’t sure whether we were supposed to root for her or not.

It had an interesting undertone that considered the class structure of the U.K. and how difficult and unnatural it is for people to move between classes. I come from a background that straddles the working class and middle class and I often have a feeling of not really belonging anywhere socially.

Liv was an interesting character. So unlikeable in many ways, but there are flashes of softness in her character which was endearing (like at the end when Becky gives her phone number).

I find myself wanting to watch it again from the beginning, now that I know the story.

I think Liv had the time to gad about because her husband did the majority of the child care. She no doubt had a cleaner and a gardener. She was also the queen of delegation.

I also found this really slow to start with and gave up a couple of times. But I really enjoyed it in the end. I agree it's one of the best dramas I've ever seen regarding the class divide.

Finished this today - really liked it! Strong cast, well acted.
Glad the ending was a satisfying conclusion too! Not all wrapped in a perfect bow but just enough 👌

Found lots of those scenes painfully tense though, damn! Whenever we thought Becky was going to get caught by Elliot snooping at night. Eek 😅

Agree it’s not the most realistic of dramas; her keeping the facade up so long, forming those relationships so quickly. I also don’t feel like many people remain hung up on teen friendships in the way we are to believe both Chloe & Becky did. But I may be wrong.

The whole dynamic with her Mum was interesting too and the loss of her sister. I think that played a huge part in how she was. Her Mum obviously blamed her for the death of her sibling, and so the rejection from someone who’s meant to love and accept you unconditionally, meant she found that relationship in Chloe and placed so much importance on it.

Yes and also if Liv found it that easily, surely Elliot would be able to, too 😬

Plus there was no indication of why Liv went to the caravan - she didn’t go looking for Becky as she didn’t know she was there, but she didn’t seem to have any other purpose or goal when she got there (other than to sneer at what was a perfectly fine (and probably fairly costly, given the shoreline location) caravan. 🤷‍♀️

This was yet another bbc series of 6 episodes which could have been over in 4.
To fill 6 episodes it has to be riveting, but this wasn't, although it was really intriguing at times.

Can someone please explain the ending to me 😂 Also, what happened to her sister? Was it an accident in the end?

Same here. Just what the heck was even going on? I'm utterly lost with virtually everything.

To be fair, I didn't choose to watch this after the first episode (long story), so I might not have been paying full attention (I did try), but precious little made sense to me. Whether that's bad writing or my lax attention I don't know. The whole thing just seemed like a mass of contrivances and plot holes. Hats off to the cast, though--they all really shone in some of the most dismal and nonsensical six hours I've ever sat through.

Just finished it. I think Becky's character and skills stretched credulity a bit. More talented than Villanelle this one. Maybe I needed more backstory on her for it to make sense. I assume she shoplifted all the fancy outfits, but when?

I agree with people's comments on the class commentary. Although, I was genuinely surprised none of the rich lot made any comment about her banger of a car.

As for the twist at the end? Meh.

I really enjoyed it!

I'll pop all of this under a spoiler just in case:
I wish there had been just one more episode to pull everything together and explain a few things ... maybe they're hoping for a second series to do that?

I'm not sure if some of the flashbacks and quietened talking behind her were her paranoia or reality ...

I found Liv to be a bit of a witch in all honesty. She had no shame living as if she was loaded, yet couldn't afford to pay Becky because of "cashflow" issues. And there she was cheating on her husband like that ... awful.

I found it annoying how much was shot with very little light - I watched it mainly during the day, so couldn't see what was happening.

How much cash did she give the retirement home to keep her mum there? And where did that come from? (I guess she stole it from the house or caravan?).

How did her sister die? I thought I saw a glimpse of a young child near a bath - did I imagine that? But then, Chloe said in the letter Becky found, "Sorry to hear about your sister" - so her death must've been more recent?

What about that $5k loan she took out in her mum's name - and the other debt she had collectors calling about? And then there was her balance for the members-only club ... did she pay for that?

Josh was an absolute honey ... she should've just run away with him!

I agree the caravan was fantastic - perfectly adequate to live in and wow, that view - stunning.

I was surprised that Chloe's mum was so pleased to see Becky - because didn't she phone Becky's mum and tell her to stop asking for her? (Maybe Becky's mum made that up just to be spiteful?). Chloe's dad didn't seem happy with her visit though.

I wondered about her old banger of a car too, but VW Golfs do have a bit of a cult status (well, they do where I'm from), even though it was an old model. The way she loaded it with rubbish certainly didn't speak 'rich' though.
