Celebrity MasterChef

I much prefer the new format as I can't stand the restaurant cooking and the mass catering - Boring, IMO. They just seem to be fillers for the sake of it, whereas more cooking skills and knowing foods and ingredients I find far more interesting and also shows what the contestants actually know and can do.

I'm pleased the 'comedian' (no Idea who he was!) went as he was more style over substance. Yes, he could plate well, but he couldn't cook his dishes properly.

Rita made a rod for her own back by boasting she was good at cooking rice - LOL, it was the rice 'cake' that ended up being her undoing!

Duncan was too cock-sure, although he tried to play it down but in the end not even Viagra was enough to keep him up...

Sue is playing safe or only knows simple dishes so I doubt she will get any further than the semis.

I also ❤ Bez! Yes, his presentation needs working on, but the dishes he prepared and his cooking knowledge is great.

I agree I prefer the new format. Interesting to see the Mowgli cooking cos I love that restaurant.

I definitely enjoyed the format better. I usually fast forward when they go into restaurants so much preferred the way they did it.

Su was annoying to begin with but quite liked her towards the end. Bez was surprising and knowledgeable so look forward to seeing what else he can do. Rita annoyed me, can't be doing with the flapping female routine, don't even remember the name of the first guy that went and Duncan thought he had it in the bag so I was pleased to see him go.

Yep! We are on the same [cooking book] page.

LOVE the new format. Have always been a big fan of any sort of palate/skills test because it really shows who knows their stuff and loves food and cooking.

I agree that the restaurant kitchen challenges have always been dull, sometimes it seems unfairly weighted with who gets which dish and how complex it is and I find it hard to focus when there is so much noise and chaos. Much preferred the way they did it with Nisha Katona and she was fab, loved her telling Bez when he had his mishap that even if he could only get one made then that was enough to taste and mark.

I'm really pleased others don't like the restaurant stuff either...I don't get what it shows? Unless they're creating their own food then it's just about how well you can follow a recipe 🤷‍♀️ That's hardly the mark of a master chef!

Then I also have no time for the mass catering challenges. They all have totally unrealistic ideas, have no idea how to scale up a recipe for that many people and it's inevitably a disaster.

I was very underwhelmed tonight. Not only with the celebrities - couldn't warm to any of them as none seem to have any character/personality - also their food. I thought all their dishes were meh! So Patrick left but it could have been anyone else. Hopefully tomorrow with be more entertaining.

BTW, when was this filmed? I don't remember the last time there was snow in London.

It snowed in London in the earlier part of this year.

I love the fact the restaurant and mass catering segments have gone. They contribute nothing.
It always me annoys when the contestants are in a professional kitchen and serve a meal to Greggggg and John. They are always going to say it's 'laaaverly' (in Gregg's case) otherwise it means they are criticising the professional chef's recipe.

I like the mass catering challenge - feeding 50, no recipes & in a team is so different to anything else they do. You’d often see them come unstuck or see who really pitched in, I liked that.
Agree on the restaurant round though, as someone said, it depended a lot on what dish they had so not comparable and was always a bit longwinded.
Wish they did the one with making something from the scraps, that was always good on the professionals. Do they still do the relay one where they take over without communicating?
Hope to see Andy P, Rylan and Sophie Thompson as critics - Les Dennis and Ade were brill too.
Early call I’m going for Bez and Mel so far.

I would love if it was a proper challenge, such as MC USA where the losing team suffers the consequences. Yes, it does challenge them, but for what? I say again it is just a boring filler.

When John and Gregg were complaining about Bez's presentation, I was dying for him to say "it's alright, it all goes to mek a turd" in his fab Manc accent (a la Jim Royle).

The only thing I can't stand about Masterchef (celebs or otherwise) is Gregg and his double entendres - last year it was slippery fish - all lovely and pink and slippery inside. God almightly, he is foul.

Mel did well in the knowledge & skills test and Megan surprised me.

When cooking the Chef's Menu, I wish they could all cook and be judged on the same dish as some were harder than others. Penny did well but I think she's far more accomplished than she claims to be, the same with Megan.

Nabil made me laugh "I don't do dainty" :D

Wasn't Megan told to use the lobster 'brains' but still chose not to?

Nabil's dishes yesterday were better than today's, so I'm not surprised he left. With the three remaining, I'm not bothered what happens in the next episode. I can't warm to any of them but it is a cooking and not a personality competition so the proof will definitely be in the eating - plus presentation.
