catfish

does anyone watch it? Do you think its staged sometimes? I've been watching catch ups and seems some of the times they know the person really isn't who they say they just use the show to meet

I watch it and even though it does feel staged I still enjoy it.

I've done some googling and some of the time the catfish is the person that contacts the show so it's not surprising the person being catfished knows that something is up.

O I like it and thinkniv watched 80% of them just see one the other day where the girl didn't seem surprised as such and made me think of bet she knows she being catfish now is only on here as likes the catfish and they planned it together

Are these new episodes or repeats of the ones a few years ago? Used to really enjoy it and kind of miss it. Reminds me of when my husband and I bought our first house as it was one of the few things we used to watch. Max was kind of hot

There's repeats everyday but there is a new one weekly they've filmed all digital in lovkdown
O that's a sweet memory
And yes in a weird way he is

Someone I know from the states wrote to them about someone she met online. The girl she met got an email from the producers asking her questions but they didnt disclose who it was. The catfish definitely knows something is up way before they are contacted on the show, i still enjoy the show though.

I love Max and Nev! Makes sense that the catfish knows since they agree to be on the show and meet up. I haven't really watched it since Max left

Currently watching the digital lock down episode so strange.
Yea makes sense now that obviously cat fish knows behind hand
Does nev do all the research and investigation

Does anyone see the episode with the handsome guy with no emotion/barely moving lips? At the end he said it did not work with the pretty blode girl, despite they liked eachother. Was is scripted?

The catfish movie is good but I think the show, by this point, is entirely scripted. No one seems to want to video chat or meet up until MTV and some cash comes along. I did like Max and how he understood the situation from the catfish victims point of view. He stood up for a few of them and had a go at the catfish for playing with peoples emotions. He was the true hero of the show.

I liked the original film ( That was said to be faked also). And I've watched most of the series.

There's some that do really seem like a set-up, especially when they all end up being from the same town. But some are good episodes and do think they genuinely wrote to the show. There was that one episode where they worked out she was faking it half way through as well and cut it off right there.

My problem with it now it's gone down the celeb route (to use the term loosely). Seems to be instagammers or other people connected with the media world.

Also with the earlier ones they had actually talked for years online. I don't think talking to someone for less than a year is really worth an episode.

I agree with the celeb and influencer route. The influencer route seems to be the new easy way to get people on reality tv today. There were some more genuine episodes in the beginning and a few of them actually worked out in the end. The short time talking does not interest me. It's the years long contact ones that always got to me but again a lot of those were fake too. How devastating would that be for the genuine person.

I haven't watched it in years. What are the excuses for not video chatting now? In the beginning it was camera is broken or didn't have a phone with a camera. You can't get away with that as of 2018 at a minimum. Now every laptop (even budget ones), tablet, and smartphone has a camera. I've dropped my cell phone numerous times over the years. Both with a case and without a case and the camera has survived.

It's either the same old excuses like their phone or computer is broken or they just simply gloss over it. They include a lot more platforms now. a lot of the episodes seem to feature those who met on POF. They should just can those ones from the off.

I really want to go on catfish, someone I used to talk to came out with all the same excuses, my phone is broken, my iPad doesn’t have a camera, etc. I very much doubt they’d find anything as I don’t know his name or have any pictures. Got fed up of it so we don’t speak, still fantasise about a juicy catfish reveal though lol!

Although, I don’t really understand how Catfish still going because 1. it is scarily easy to find out things about people (more so in the US than here in the UK) by just going on a website like Spokeo, which is what they use on Catfish, 2. it is scarily easy to find out things about people by reverse image searching, and 3. The show has been going on so long that surely people know to be Suspicious if they’re hit with the classic ‘my camera is broken’ - which leads me to think that yes, a majority of it nowadays is scripted or at the very least planned out (genuine internet relationships who lie about being catfished for the cash/exposure). Plus I did try to apply for Catfish a few years ago and the first question the application form asks you is if you’re the catfish - it’s all about coming clean. Which would suggest that it is faked in some way. I don’t know if the application form was different in the earlier years - when I applied it was in like, 2018 ish, I think - but I get the impression that it was less fake in the earlier years than it is now.

I enjoy the earlier seasons much more than the later ones, the later ones where max has left and guest co stars have stepped in his place I find dull. I love both nev and max.... I’d go on catfish just to meet them 😍

I'm watching a few recent episodes. I'm sad to see that Max has left. I can understand being hesitant to meet up, at least in earlier series, since a lot of the people seemed to be young 20 somethings or working low paying jobs. Time off work, travel expenses, and money to do things during a visit can add up. Then again if you really want to see someone then you save up to make it possible.

I agree with Apple in My Pie that catfishing is so well known now that people can do this research on their own. I think going on the show is for a bit of money, social media exposure, and in rare cases a genuine last resort to find the truth when nothing else has worked. If the pandemic and lockdowns have taught us anything it's that people now want to video chat. Video chat dates and video calls in general have been all the rage lately, you can't get away from them.

Gotta say, I've done a bit of reverse image searching myself and found the guy has children and lied about it. Thank you, Catfish!
