Bridgerton

It was pitched as 1 season only to RJ and in the books Simon barely ever appears, none of the spouses really appear aside from their main books. It is after all "The Bridgertons" and the focus lies entirely on the siblings.
The director also said he "hopes" to have RJ back as Simon a few months ago. If he were to appear it would be one or two scenes in one episode and that's it.

It was pitched to him as a one season deal and that was the contract he signed. Otherwise, they would have had him sign for five seasons, as it is usually the case. I see nothing problematic with his exit, he did the job he was paid to do, fulfilled his contract, he's the new rising star and of course he will take advantage of the opportunities he is given. He would be crazy to pass on a Marvel or Bond movie in favor of Bridgerton.

However, will I miss his character? Most definitely yes. I think they made a casting mistake when it comes to Anthony and other characters, they function very well in this season, I loved them; however, it seems as if no one had in mind that in the next season(s), they are to become the leads. Rege Jean has that leading star charisma and presence, and of course, there are his looks, so he snatched the season, together with Phoebe and their chemistry. I am hopeful he might have a small cameo in S2, Shonda has always been good at that.

I'll miss the Daphne/Simon scenes, I thoroughly enjoyed their chemistry, and I think this show is such a gem. Love everything about it, wish S1 was a tad bit longer.

Exactly I agree with this! I also think a lot of viewers haven't read the books so they assumed it would be all about Simon and Daphne. When in fact the show is called "bridgerton" and is about all 8 siblings not just one couple. I think that's why they keep reminding people that S2 is about Anthony, so they're not disappointed when Simon isn't the main character!

I cant wait to see what they do with it and the storylines coming out with the new castings too!

I might check the new season out despite not finishing the first one

Said it before but Daphne and the Duke just weren't my cup of tea, they had no chemistry together and the whole story line was a bit bland. The siblings seemed more interesting and varied in character and ideas though

Unpopular opinion but I don’t think the duke is that amazing, yes he’s good looking but he doesn’t WOW me like he does others. Period dramas & Historical dramas are my thang 😂 you name it I’ve watched it, I’d say Bridgerton is waaayyyy down the list on my favourites, I found the use of modern music distracting... over all I did enjoy it, but definitely not the best. The whole time watching I was very aware that I was watching actors playing dress up, which is what irritated me, I like to feel I’m lost in a different century but with bridgerton I just didn’t get that 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll give it a 5.5/10 😂

Your post made me quite laugh and I agree with you.
It did feel very much like dress-up and for entertainment only, like the stark colours and all that (nothing wrong with that obvs).
Felt like it was more made as a feast for the eyes in a way.

The spoon licking scene annoyed me to no end though, so over the top and like have we slithered into costumed prn?
I know the novels are raunchy, I still found it too much.

I wonder if it will come to bite them back, especially once people realise that it's meant to focus on the siblings rather than one solid couple

I have a feeling that's why they're taking about anthony being the main for S2 now &the mention of benedict and Colin having their moments in s3/4. If they say it now to people, they won't be set up for disappointment... or not as many will be

I feel like it was pretty obvious from the first series that it was going to be a family drama as they introduced all the older siblings and set up their situations nicely. Daphne and Simon have had their happily ever after now, so there isn’t really anywhere else to go with that. I think some people will be disappointed because they loved the Duke but not everyone was watching just for him.

I think that a lot more people have also read the books after seeing the series, so they now realise its not just about Daphne and the Duke. If I'm honest I'm looking more forward to all the siblings stories being developed too, rather than just focusing on one couple
