I think I’m late to the party? But I’ve just watched a man called Otto and loved it. Cried my eyes out! I’ve bought the book as it’s on kindle 99p this month. How does everyone find the book compared to the film? I would of liked to read the book first but my husband was watching it & found myself watching it aswell!

Just to say the David Hunter book recommended on the last thread is part of a series and they are all available as part of the audible catalogue. Just added them all to my library.

I really want to start reading more on my Kindle - it’s just so much more convenient and often cheaper (although i do buy books from charity shops, when there’s a title i really want it’s inevitably cheaper on Kindle) - but I struggle with reading from a screen. I much prefer having a book i can pick up and set down and the Kindle just isn’t the same. It’s mainly the first few chapters i have to force myself through then i kind of forget i’m reading on a screen. I suppose i’m looking for tips on how to break through this? I really want to read Rivals after watching the TV show, and I have a few Lucinda Reillys i want to read, that are just just sitting on my kindle unopened. Does anyone else have this mental block about reading a book that’s not on paper?

I used to feel like this about Kindle and audiobooks. I always preferred holding an actual book. I think what swung me was the fact that I am really tight and I’m a sucker for a 99p kindle deal (and have limited space for more books as I’m a real book hoarder). It’s also the convenience and being able to lie in bed just tapping the page instead of trying to get comfortable with an actual book.
I’m currently on my 74th and 75th book of the year and all but 8 of them have been kindle or audiobooks.

Paul Mescal fans... this is for you 😂

Apparently, there was one in Ireland last too. He looks like a lot of Irish men but there is something about him if that makes sense. I say that as someone married to an Irish man 😂

I go in phases. Sometimes I fly through books on the Kindle. Other times, I just want to a real book. I think I can concentrate better using the Kindle when reading in a loud/ public place. It took me ages to actually want to read anything on it though.

Does anyone use a Kobo rather than a kindle? And would you recommend? Also if so, which model?
I use both, but I prefer my kobo. It advertises to me less (the front screen when it's off is the book I'm reading), I can read my libby books on it (setting it up took a little effort and now it just downloads automatically), and it's the perfect size for my bag. I've got the Kobo Clara 2E, which is almost two years old. I also have a four year old kindle paperwhite which is slow and loses battery more quickly, but as a disclaimer, I have used it a lot.

Kobo gets the same monthly deals as Kindle (some take a while to update), but only one daily deal.

I've just finished the book and not sure if I want to watch the film! I've watched the trailer, but I'm put off by the American-ness vs the original setting. I might try and see if I can find the Swedish film to watch somewhere instead.

I don’t like watching films I’m just not a film person! But this made me stop what I was doing and watch. Asked my husband to pause it so we could watch it properly in the evening! I definitely recommend. But then I haven’t read the book. I’m going to though!

Have you played around with your kindle settings? There might be a font or font size that you find more comfortable to read on the screen. Or perhaps you need the screen to be more or less bright from the backlight? I know on my paperwhite signature I can also adjust the warmth which is great.

Finished the Boris book. Let us say I was very emotional at the end, but as I've been reading it I've been overcome with rage, a pounding heart and sometimes tears and patriotism like a Ukrainian could understand.
The pity is that some people in this world have too much ego, malice, spite and only think of themselves and what they can gain out of it.
On to a Cressida McLaughlin Christmas book and the latest Tim Spector. 📖📚
