This is interesting. I am not clear on if these new stations will have full time live programs, or will have an automated playlist between shows?

Obviously trying to win back some listeners that have gone elsewhere

Quite bizarre, especially as they scale down the local/regional BBC output due to cost-cutting measures, I get the feeling these "extensions" might just be jukeboxes, or old shows?
They tried this before with various pop-up stations, on air for about a month or two.
I think too many executives at the BBC have too much time on their hands trying to justify the over inflated salaries.
BBC Sounds is a great App but already there's a lot of deadwood on it that I don't even look at.

I forgot about the local cuts. I think that the local stations are more important than pleasing people who don't want to listen to anything made after 1979. There are plenty of stations that already fill that niche.

On a tangent about old music, for a few weeks before Christmas I became obsessed with a channel I found called 'That's 60s', it just plays clips of 60s groups and songs all day, interspersed with adverts for life insurance and sad donkey charities. There are some very interesting fashion and performance choices....

Idiocy at the BBC continues then, I don't want "A new Radio 2 extension providing a distinctive take on pop nostalgia", I can get that from any number of other themed stations from all over the planet, or a spotify playlist, or just my own clicks from video to video on youtube.

I want the mix of old and current/new but all easy listening stuff, interspersed with today's news and funny shout-outs that Ken Bruce did so well.

Anyway I was amused to see that in the Mail story about these new stations (click here) the Mail doesn't know the difference between Scott and Vernon and has labelled them the wrong way round.

By the looks of it they've both had Botox and id say Scott had overdone it with the fillers, so no wonder the DM bot got a bit confused! 🤣
