BBC Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical Talent Shows

Not sure if this is a thread that people will enjoy but I was wondering the other day about the old BBC musical talent shows and what became of the people on them. I used to love watching on a Saturday night....
- How do you solve a problem like Maria (maria)
- Id Do Anything (Oliver, Nancy)
- any dream will do (joesph)
- Over the Rainbow (Dorothy)
I’d love to discuss if anyone remembers these and of they have any gossip on those involved!

I enjoyed watching them, they were a breath of fresh air at the time.

Samantha Barks has to be my favourite, and the lady who went into Hollyoaks was good but seems her life has been *interesting* since and not to do with singing on stage.

She's done pretty well for herself, did over a year on Broadway in Pretty Woman and will be London's Elsa in Frozen.
Ah she’s done great for herself then and will be an amazing Elsa!
I really like siobhan Dillon in the first series - I saw her as Betty in Sunset Boulevard with Glenn Close and she was incredible

Oh I used to love those shows. Absolutely my kind of thing!! I did used to get creeped out at ALW’s rather odd expressions though 😂😂

One of the girls Sophie Evans went on to be very successful. She didn’t win but did many years as Glinda in Wicked.

So many have gone on to amazing things - I guess Jessie Buckley is one of the most successful!
I really liked Rachel Tucker in the Id do anything series - she went on to wicked as well and was brilliant

bloody hell id actually totally forgotten Jessie Buckley was even on that show 😂 wow. And yes so many have been successful. Wish they would do more of them it’s about the only reality show I liked

god I forgot train wreck Stephanie Davis was also on Over The Rainbow. I remember disliking her even then 😂

Agree only reality / talent show I have ever really liked and actually stayed in for!

I LOVED these shows (though wasn’t keen on Over the Rainbow). I remember I was fuming in the I’d Do Anything one because there was a contestant called Nancy auditioning for the role of Nancy and she was so good and looked like an early favourite and got sent home during the second round of auditions! Everyone on DigitalSpy was outraged lol.

I loved the sing offs that they did as well and the goodbye song they had to sing when they got eliminated. Does anyone remember that twit from the Joseph one and instead of singing “I’ve been promised a land of my own” when he got evicted, he sang “I’ve been promised a SHOW OF MY OWN”.

Oh my goodness yes - he was such a knob! Can’t remember who he was though so doubt he has done much

They're probably on Britbox where the greedy BBC is stashing everything that they think they can gouge a few more quid out of us even though we already paid them to make it for us.

Does anyone remember the ‘conspiracy’ at the time from the Joseph show where whoever took the coat from the evicted contestant went out the next week?

I really liked I’d do anything at the time too, having the kids audition for Oliver too was interesting. Wonder what they’re all up to now!
