I think her issues go way beyond any standard mental health explanation, there is much deeper stuff going on and I do wonder if she is being protected by social services or a mental health team in some way (having moved home, allowed Facebook but not having the comments section activated, having no access to TV at the moment)

Facebook is clearly an outlet for her, as wrong as what she's sharing may be there may be the balance of giving her a "safe" outlet (and previously her FB wasn't reaching a big audience) versus her taking that hatred and focus out into public.

Ooh 🦌

It’s just clickbait, there’s been so suggestion of a second series from anyone involved with the show:

“While the great success of the show has fans calling for a second season, Baby Reindeer is a limited series, meaning it was created with the intent of only ever having one season. However, that doesn’t mean that the team doesn’t have the chance to extend past the first season. As of April 2024, Netflix has not renewed Baby Reindeer for a second season, and Gadd has not made any comments alluding to the idea.”

So the ‘everything we know so far’ is ‘Nothing. We’re just throwing guesses and maybes out there’. These stories always appear about any vaguely successful tv show. It’s just lazy click-harvesting.

The only “evidence” I’ve seen cited for it being Sean Foley was (1) the fact he had worked with Richard at some point, and (2) he has a passing (but not striking) resemblance to the actor. It’s a reach, to put it mildly. Next thing you know, it’s all over X and everyone believes it without question.
Why do people have to be so weird / obsessive?

Although a diagnosed condition wasn’t mentioned, I would assume not BPD unless in conjunction with something else. I have BPD and the symptoms are not the same other than it being trauma related (like a lot of mental health) - I know no one here can or should diagnose but it would be interesting to know one day whether anything has been diagnosed by a professional

I don't think it's BPD either , BPD tends to be less outwardly violent its more directed inwards with outbursts some people can be horrible with BPD but it's not usually that level everyone is different though. She's literally vile about everyone She comes across as psychotic , delusional and not a very nice person. Even if well and pumped up on medication I suspect she still wouldn't be a very pleasant person. Perhaps a bit of antisocisl personality disorder thrown in. I don't know I'm just guessing here.

She reminds me of my mum too 😞 I have sympathy for my mum when she was a child and experienced significant trauma. I choose to have no contact with the vindictive, dangerous adult that she is, she has no idea about anything about my life as an adult and I do everything I can to keep it that way. I used to think one day my mum would grow up but she is just as dangerous in her 60s as she always was and always will be.

I don’t think ‘Martha’ has the ability to change. I’m actually quite shocked thinking about it that Richard Gadd has made all this so public. I grey rocked my mum for years and would avoid doing anything to come up on her radar knowing what hell it would unleash. Is this another form of his self harm/self loathing?

I think it is a form of self harm and some part of him misses her. He knows she brings nothing but destruction but misses the chaos of it all. In my less stable times as a teen /early 20s I have missed people who were very bad for me because they were entertaining and interesting.

Yes, I think some people almost become addicted to the chaos or they experience it for so long it almost becomes the norm for them. Lots of people can unconsciously recreate these kind of dynamics as even though the situation made them unhappy it’s what they know so it feels safer than the unknown. In the last week I’ve gone from thinking he was very brave making this to thinking he needs some serious therapeutic work.

I suppose things like medical information is confidential actually so would that even be disclosed

I don't think Gadd or anyone involved thought it would be nearly as successful as this so they didn't take enough precautions to disguise characters. Now it's all blown up in their faces.

It was really uncomfortable to watch in places, but I couldn't stop. I binge watched the whole thing in an evening. Brilliant performance from the actor playing Martha but the series left me feeling really uneasy the next day. You need a while to shrug it off.

Tbh I don’t see why she shouldn’t be named and shamed? She was the one in the wrong at the end of the day and got convicted for it! It’s no different from the media reporting on something and giving names!

Yeah she has been afforded a high degree of anonymity when it could be argued it's in the public interest that people are warned about her.
