Does anyone think this is all just big black mirror episode and they will be asking why the public were so interested in Martha who has no power mentally ill and on benefits and not the rapist who has money and power.
It says "This is a true story".This has been picked up on a few times now & im a little confused as it was based on a true story wasn't it? So some dramatisation expected? It wasn't a documentary so I'm not sure how much fact checking would be expected & what the legal stance is. I'd be surprised if Netflix have left themselves open for any legal claims, but who knows!
“Based on a true story” and “this is a true story” are not quite the same. BR stated the latter whereas if merely based on a true story, you could expect there to be more dramatic licence. Like you say, it’s not a documentary so did not need to be 100% the truth. But there is a slight nuance there. I think the reason Martha went to prison in the show was for resolution purposes and to tie it up - otherwise there would be the question left of how Donny can move on with his life. This has been picked up on a few times now & im a little confused as it was based on a true story wasn't it? Yes I agree, I have an ordinary degree too, literally no grade, it’s just a passPiers constantly asking what grade she got is infuriating and makes him look so stupid. It’s an ORDINARY degree you twit. There’s no ‘grade’.
I also reiterated this. I’ve just lurked in this thread but I’m open mouthed at the amount those of you on here have suffered. You’re all amazing xWhat I’ve learned mostly from Baby Reindeer and particularly from this thread is how much more common stalking is. In my own naive bubble I’d only thought of celebrities being stalked and even then thought they had security. I hadn’t ever given it much more thought.
I am so shocked and saddened by the stories of those members on here who have experienced stalking. It just blows my mind that those terrible things have happened to you, when you are just going about your regular lives. How you live in fear even when things are ‘quiet’. I can’t imagine the stress, anxiety and fear of living your daily life and nobody doing anything or police intervening.
I hope this show has highlighted stalking to a stage where authorities, friends, family and colleagues take everything seriously from the get go to help the victims.
Much strength to thosewho have suffered this experience and are continuing to live in uncertainty and fear!
And maybe the voicemails?btw it's insane how well Jessica Gunning nailed her role without having any reference except of Gadd's words. She has to sweep award season.
I kind of feel like this whole thing is so surreal, I feel like it’s a complete set up in a way and they will turn round and say it was all a lie and part of the whole tv drama. Don’t get me wrong I know folks have had awful stalking/SA experiences and this has raised awareness and discussion which is great, but it all just seems off to me in a way. Sorry I did not articulate that well at all

I got the impression from watching it that the canal grope was dramatised - to link to his earlier SA. I also thought the attack on Teri didn’t happen in real life either - but who’s to say. FH seemed quite adamant those things didn’t happen, whereas not an outright denial on the emails, letters etc.
I know a lot of people don’t like RG but I’m happy he’s managed to turn his pain to art; it’s a beautiful thing. It doesn’t really bother me whether he’s fame hungry or not - least he’s got what he’s always wanted and can see some good/purpose in what he went through.
She didnt reply with that .She said she did alright. Why not correct him and tell him he is wrong, that she got an ordinary degree. She goes on for ages about there being a high court judge, photographic memory, she did alright, not top of the class etc but she doesnt answer the question,Piers constantly asking what grade she got is infuriating and makes him look so stupid. It’s an ORDINARY degree you twit. There’s no ‘grade’.
