I think the show exposes an interesting desire amongst most (not the far more nuanced folk here) that they need a clear cut good vs bad in their entertainment. The fanfare of BR appears to me to be at least somewhat because it challenges their idea that victims are only innocent good people, rather than awful things can happen to even the most awful people.

Martha is clearly awful. That there’s perhaps reason for that is something, but doesn’t detract from how awful she is. But RG is also awful. And there’s absolutely reason for that. Still awful.

I have a somewhat tinfoil hat theory that RG’s deliberately sympathetic depiction of Martha in part rationalises for him why he behaved in the way he did; if the viewer could understand the bits of Martha that weren’t menacing and awful, we’d understand his hesitance in taking proper action etc. And if we could understand and accept it, so too could he. My crackpot theory continues that he knew exactly how the public would respond in trying to track characters down, and in a way prove his point: even decent people can be stalkers. Look at everyone going Martha-lite tracking people down, feverishly waiting for their next move. RG has kinda proven that everyone is just a few steps away from being a slightly obsessed, should know better, over the top interest in someone else kook.

I think at his core, RG is still very very self loathing. His insistence that Martha was a victim too helps him explain to himself what happened to him. That maybe he played a part in it. Maybe she wasn’t that bad. All of the things he likely had to convince himself of in the aftermath of his grooming and abuse at the hands of Darrien. I think RG has the right to tell his story, express himself through art, and cash in from Netflix however he damn well likes, but I think the bravery tag would be more appropriate if he were to make a report against his rapist.

I hope she does delete or private her account although I wonder if she even knows how to do that. She doesn't seem to have much of a grasp on technology and her two old Twitter accounts still exist.

I feel compelled to read what mad things she's saying each day, and I know my fascination and everyone else's is fueling her to post more mad stuff which is not good for her or the people she is mentioning. It's probably not great for me either to so interested and checking what she is saying often. Completely agree with what you're saying on that @ActiveLies. It feels wrong that I am now in a way stalking Martha by reading her Facebook posts along with many others.

As people have said, she's said she is leaving and then posted multiple times after already (and also how she used to say in the pub she had to go and never did) so this announcement that she's deleting may mean nothing either.

This is Richard right?? Saw him on Scot squad.

Are we 100% sure this account is her?
Because it's all over the place; how is she getting texts? Who would have her number? She's taking all the details of people who like her public posts? What? If she's a highly qualified lawyer, why can she barely string a sentence together?

Are we being trolled?!
She's not a lawyer. I'm not even sure she completed her law degree.

However, I'm still torn on whether this Facebook account is an elaborate hoax by someone playing games.

I know its hard to believe someone can be that batshit but her posts go back years so I would say its defo her.

As for the lawyer thing, she never completed her traineeship which is a requirement to actually practice law. She was sacked by one firm after a few days and ended up stalking the owner and her MP husband.

I also think she has a law degree and was taken on as a trainee solicitor, that only lasted a week. If she has bi polar then it may have started in her early 20s. It would also explain her oversharing and garrulous style. If she is in a manic stage now she will be directing her anger outwards but if she crashes into depression she may have some regrets and direct her anger towards herself. Whatever she has done in her past I do have sympathy for anyone with such disabling mental health problems. I wonder if anyone from her university or school days will come forward.

Probably not in case she directs her interest towards them.

I binge watched this yesterday and have read both threads today. It's fascinating. It was so difficult to watch at times and really thought provoking, I kept finding myself thinking "no way would a victim want to re live this and be able to act it out" but on reflection, who am I to say how any victim in that situation would feel or act? The way one victim deals with things will differ from another and I guess there's no clear cut explanation so I'll reserve judgement on Richard for now but I can see why some in the thread are sceptical.

I've now fallen down a rabbit hole of the real Martha's facebook and can't quite believe what I'm reading!

The line about her head zipping up at the back reminds me of in the show how Martha said she wishes she could unzip people and Donny joked about unzipping his chin and putting biscuits in. I wonder if that is a real convo they had.

I also wonder if it’s true FH was perceptive enough to see he’d been “hurt by a man”.
I hadn't picked up on that, but yeah, it stands out because Scottish people usually say "buttons up the back" not zips. Never far away from the creepy undertones.
