Anne

I sobbed from the bit when the farmer gave them petrol and didn't stop until the end.

I'm a LFC fan and grew up in Liverpool. I remember that day like it was yesterday.
There wasn't any live TV footage like they showed in the programme, all there was, was the local radio and John Motson and Des Lynham on BBC.
We had family and friends there that day. I've never known our house so silent.
Our family members made it out, some friends didn't.
I got so angry when the Inspector went to Anne and Steve's house and LIED to their faces. This happened to a lot if not all the families.

Liverpool fans still get called murderers by uneducated and ignorant people. They seem to forget that it was the Police were at fault but got away with lovely pensions. The families didn't want money, they wanted JUSTICE! But it will never happen now 💔

Anne was an amazing woman who refused to give up. Maxine Peak did an amazing job and deserves awards for her portrayal of Anne.

I hope people who didn't know much about the Hillsborough disaster watched Anne and now see what actually happened. Unfortunately she passed before the official inquests, but she would have been looking down with her beautiful boy and supporting all the families and survivors ❤

*sorry for rambling a bit. I find it really hard to get my words in order when talking about it x

I became obsessed with Hillsborough when I was at uni in Sheffield in 2005. My family are lifelong Liverpool supporters (we’re from a ‘woolly’ part of merseyside) and my mum always told me how tragic it was growing up.
I was studying criminology and ironically had my exams at Hillsborough, in the gymnasium. It was eerie even all those years later.
Anyway there’s a brilliant documentary called Hillsborough https://watchdocumentaries.com/hillsborough/
I’d highly recommend it if you are interested in learning more about the tragedy, the fight for justice and why it was so important for those families not to give up.
I’m also reading the Hillsborough Voices book written by Kevin Sampson who wrote Anne. Again highly recommended.

No you put it very well. I think there are new generations now who weren’t born or not old enough to remember it who are just learning about it now and are giving the injustice and the incredulity of it all a new voice.

@Ethel's little Willy - you put that very eloquently and I think you are right. I am sure there are many who wouldn't have know the facts or thought Hillsborough was a tragic accident. I was only a child when it happened but remember the footage of people trying to climb over the pens and the police trying to force them back. The lies and cover up was criminal and it is sickening that justice was never served.

So sorry (and angry) for what your family and friends went through x

Kevin is brilliant. Such a good writer.

Thank you ❤ I explain and tell my children all about it, especially my eldest as he is a mad football fan. (Unfortunately he's not a Liverpool fan, but we all have our faults lol)
He looks at me in horror sometimes as he cannot understand what the police and the press did.
He came and held my hand and cuddled me when I was watching/sobbing through the last episode of Anne.

Thank you so much @Pushyplumb ❤ that means a lot ❤

I was still at school but I will never forget that day and the aftermath 💔

I cried all the way through. Anne was an absolute warrior. The part when they went to look at the photos really happened but all the families were treated much worse on the day than was portrayed.
All the stories are harrowing but blimey if you read some of the things written by Trevor and Jenni Hicks who lost their 2 young daughters it will give you nightmares.

Absolutely loved this series, heartbreaking watch.

Im hoping it will bring some recognition and attention to the injustice the victims and survivors still face. Those workers need to be held responsible and charged. Tried to find a petition or something to sign but there really is nothing, hopefully this sparks one up.

I only wish they shown more of Anne's campaigning and fiery fighting. She wasn't called the iron lady for nothing, I would've liked to see that side more than the break up from her husband.

Either way though it was an incredible watch.

Just finished watching and oh my god, it got me. Coming from a non football fan family never took any notice of football or anything involving football…till 1998.
i don’t remember anything to do with hillsbourgh I was 6. Obviously in the last 10 years I’ve heard about it.
Another show that will stay with me (it’s a sin is the other one)
I cried more than I thought I did. Felt so heartbroken for the family’s.

There is a jimmy mcgovern drama called hillsborough on YouTube if anyone is interested. It is just as harrowing though and very realistic. I remember watching it when it was originally broadcast in 1996 and being shocked by it, although I remember hillsborough happening I was slightly too young to understand the enormity of the disaster at the time, and that drama was my first real understanding of what happened. Chris eccleston plays Trevor hicks it is done from the perspective of him and Jenny who lost both their daughters on the day.

edit: it no longer appears to be on YouTube I will see if it’s on itv player later

It’s on BritBox x

One of the most emotional things I’ve ever watched. I was a child when it happened but I remember seeing it on the news. I never quite realised how bad the cover up was.
I cried from the moment he was begging his parents to let him go….. my son is 16 and a mad Liverpool fan, I just kept thinking I don’t know what I’d do if that happened to him. So sad, so wrong and could have been prevented and also so many lives could’ve been saved in the aftermath.
JFT97 ❤️🤍 and RIP Anne, what a woman.
