anime

I used to love Hetalia Axis Powers back in the day if that counts, and tokyo mew mew 🥴

What are your favourites? I’d love to get back into anime but I’m not sure where to start. I did watch and love yuri on ice 🥰

i started with the classic ones in childhood: pokemon, sailor moon, dragon ball z :D (i hated digimon tho) and then when i was just getting into them i watched death note. that's still my favorite anime to this date and i've watched it 5-6 times. it's also less than 40 episodes so easy to go through for a beginner!

my other favorites are hunter x hunter, fairy tail, fullmetal alchemist the brotherhood and one piece. from some shorter ones i liked tokyo ghoul, psycho pass and another.

i'm sure i'm forgetting many! but last night i started rewatching hunter x hunter so thought i'd start this thread :D

Yeah, I’m currently watching food wars (season 3) and it’s really good
i heard about that one? is it really about cooking?

I enjoyed B Gata H Kei and Ouran High School Host Club.
they both seem to be romantic? :D or is there more to the plot?

tokyo mew mew seems cute :D yuri on ice has been on my list for ages!!! i should definitely watch that next :)

Kind of got in with the Dragonball renaissance however just couldn't get into Super (even when watching it in Japanese)

I did go back and watch the whole of Z though and it's just as good as I remember.

yes! Though it quite literally does the whole ‘food-gasim’ thing but honestly once you get past it there’s real plot and character development

where is everyone streaming? If we’re allowed to ask, I know it can be tricky these days lol
i usually either google 'name of the show stream' and try a few different websites. crunchyroll doesn't work for me anymore :( or sometimes i download them!

Yesssss I love anime, I've grown up watching it. My favourites are Haikyuu, Cardcaptor Sakura, FMA: Brotherhood, Lovely Complex, Death Note, My Hero Academia, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure... I've watched loads more but can't think of them atm. Ofc I grew up watching Naruto and One Piece and Pokemon too, but I can't say they're my faves, they're more for nostalgia. Although, some of the fight scenes in Naruto are incredible and I go back and watch them on Youtube sometimes!

@bolimepipi have you made it to the end of One Piece??? I got about 300 chapters into the manga and thought it was good, but I'm totally put off by the length. When I went on holiday to Japan, it was the 20th anniversary of One Piece and the characters were everywhere, school kids were wearing One Piece backpacks, and there was a One Piece pop-up shop at Tokyo Tower, it was really cool!

Also with HxH, do you watch the 1999 version or the newer one? I'm confused at which one to watch first.

@aimzalicious omg yes you've reminded me of fma and naruto! can't say i'm surprised one of your favorites is death note ❤
one piece - i didn't finish it, i think they're close to about 1000 episodes? i managed about 600. ah that sounds so cool!!! one of the top reasons i want to go to japan is anything anime related and those huge pokemon shops :D
hxh - i watch the new one. i couldn't get into the older one. i love little killua :)

also, another classic! bleach!!

I went to the Pokemon shop!! It's really amazing, but quite tricky to find because it's in this random huge mall and me and my friends got very lost. Everything is expensive in the shop, so next time I go I'm taking a lot more spending money. I bought Slowpoke and Gengar socks, an Espeon mug for my flatmate, and there was a HUGE Wailmer plushie that I wanted, but not sure how I could've got it home 🤔

Okay I'll watch the newer one of HxH, I hope it's as good as everyone says!

I never got into Bleach but that reminds me - did you ever watch Inuyasha?

Literally wtf. I hope he's a good character atleast! I've seen a few memes with him in

I used to be a big fan of manga/anime back in the late 90s/early 00s. It all started off after watching Akira on BBC2, and was totally blown away by the animation and storyline (It was made in 1988, and looks dated now of course)

I then moved onto Patlabor, Alita: Battle Angel, Wicked City, Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away and the Resident Evil franchise

But come the turn on the 2010s and I lost interest for one reason or another. But perhaps I will revisit some of those again when I find time(y)

I own the entire Sailor Moon collection, I watch them with the original Japanese Soundtrack with English Subs, I can't stand the crap american voices.
I've also got Bubblegum Crisis plus the later version and bubblegum crash.
Pokemon from the start right upto Master Quest.

always subbed, never dubbed
I never bothered with anime growing up, as it was always dubbed by American voice actors and so OTT. I'm not really an anime fan now, but Aoi Bungaku was really unique. I dread to think what it would have been like if it were dubbed! I have seen a bit of the YOI dub, and oh my goodness is it awful. You have an American man pretend to be a Russian man, put on his best cliche accent and butcher the Russian words. And then an American man pretend to be Japanese, by putting on this immature over excited immature accent.... I think they should have used the new release to show a more realistic version of what the character's would have spoke like. Have Russian, Japanese etc voice actors speak in English together but then also in their native languages when appropriate ie Yuri would have spoken English to Viktor, but Japanese when back home to most of the characters, sub that. I wish more drama would show the realistic diversity in languages spoken, there was a Mary Queen of Scots film that constantly switched between French & English etc as the "characters" would have done.

I don't like dubbing in general, and I'm glad that media, be it films or non-English speakers being interviewed tends to go with subtitles nowadays.
