American Murder: The Family Next Door - Netflix

I would agree! He’s got a vacant look throughout most of the police interviews, outlining his lack of empathy, which is associated with high scoring on the PCL-R (psychological assessment for psychopathy). As an earlier poster suggested, I don’t think he fits the NPD profile at all. There’s no element of personality disorder for me. Little things highlight psychopathy, e.g putting the girls in an oil tank, to attempt to disguise the smell. He may have had a low IQ, but the murders were definitely premeditated, with some element of “planning”.

Psychopaths are excellent at “mirroring” emotion. I’m sure most people who knew CW would have painted him as a loving father, spouse and neighbour. I believe that’s why this case is so horrific, as people can’t understand what would push someone to murder their entire family?

I don’t believe he’s narcissistic or a sociopath. His flat affect/lack of emotion is the telltale of psychopathy. Within criminal psychology, there’s a lot of focus at the moment on “behavioural” reasons e.g NPD, but for me he doesn’t fit those traits at all, including covert narcissism 🤷‍♀️

I never believed he was a narcissistic either, he’s seems devoid of emotion and the fact he had to google what it feels like when your in love proves that. He actually has a really high IQ.

Your comparison is ridiculous.

People can have an opinion on someone’s behaviour without wishing brutal murder on them. Many who have commented on her posting weren’t aware she worked for an MLM. I have a lot of people who post MLM scheme on Instagram etc and yep, they are annoying. Does that justify them and their unborn child being murdered... NOPE. I also don’t see anyone even trying to excuse or justify his actions in the same context as saying she was annoying.

She belittled him in a lot of her Facebook videos, he should have spoken up but he kept it all in for a happy life. He should have grown a pair. She also took his pay cheque off him (Again he should have spoke up) and wasn’t paying the mortgage, but was paying over $2,500 a month on childcare while she was at home doing her MLM stuff. I read recently that they had $27,000 worth of thrive products in the basement. They were in debt up to their eyeballs it must be extremely stressful in a marriage having that hanging over you. Chris was a wussy and would rather kill his wife and children then actually admit he was having an affair. Laughable he wants to get out of prison, he doesn’t seem to show much remorse.

OMG that says it all if his sister tagged the new gf in a Facebook post as being part of the family. He's obviously still part of the family and they still love him. They aren't disturbed or disgusted over what he did. I don't know if I could still love my siblings if they did something so awful. They aren't even bothered that their grandchildren and nieces are murdered. The fact that he has a new gf is vile. Some women must be so desperate!

That's actually really bad and frustrating that she could be so careless with money and you can see why he wanted out of the situation. Should have just left her. Even if he left and went away with his mistress and could never be contacted then at least they would still be alive. Could have gone and lived with her family.

Theirs a call being released on the 23rd of this month of Chris talking with his parents and Sister and their taking about the fact they had a memorial for the girls, and talking to their son who murdered the girls. Like it was someone’s else’s memorial, I’ve heard parts and it’s beyond bizarre. And Chis kept answering “that’s awesome” . It’s sick and his family are in deep denial over what he did.

Please refer to the parts in bold if you were confused at any point as to whether I thought it was any excuse for him to kill her :)

“I agree with you all! I don’t want to victim blame either, and there is no excuse to kill!!- but Shanann was sooooo annoying! He couldn’t even come up the escalator at the airport without her texting him asking for a heads up so she could film. And I actually felt bad for him when he dressed as Santa and she had a go at him for not having his phone on him!! There were clearly problems from the start if his parents weren’t at their wedding. So again whilst it’s no reason to kill your entire family, the relationship wasn’t heading anywhere good from the start of you ask me.”

I could go much deeper into my thinking. The killing itself is very black and white, he did it, it was wrong, THERE IS NEVER ANY EXCUSE TO KILL ANYONE, but I do think there’s more to it than oh he just wanted to run away with his girlfriend.
MONEY. He was already in debt and they were fixing to have a third child... more child support. He was having an affair with a girl worked with so if Shannon threw a fit it could cause them to lose both their jobs then sure enough broke. It's absolutely horrible, but I think it was mostly about money. Was the girlfriend going to still want him if he didn't have a pot to piss in? Just my thoughts.
