American Murder: The Family Next Door - Netflix

Am 99% certain that Nicole knew nothing.

Shanann was away when CW started his affair with her and claimed they had separated. If she had been attracted to him from previously (I think she always fancied him) then it would be a lie all too easily believed.

Real Crime Profile podcast are doing a series based upon the documentary and their presenters are excellent. Two of them are criminal behaviour analysts and criminal profilers. Their assessment at the moment is that CW scores highly on the psychopathy checklist. Given their experience and knowledge I have no doubt they are correct.

For me the crunch came when the lie detector detective pointed out to CW that not once had he shown any emotions about the missing girls.

His statement of "I didn't do anything to those girls" was also telling as he distances himself from them with the "those girls" bit.

Not "my babies" not "my darling girls" but "those girls"....it was cold and horrific all at once.

No Shanann wanted nico as its Italian ( like the girls names) Shanann had Italian blood x

I know that it would seem to be all Shannan's pick with her having Italian roots and that Nico is an Italian name; but picking names for a baby is something couples usually do together so, I would assume that Chris would've had some input. It's just a thought I had.

She may not have done anything physically, but I definitely think that Nicole had a part and said some things either intentionally or unintentionally to influence Chris to do what he did. Like saying that she wanted to have his firstborn son, when she already knew that Shannan was pregnant with Nico. That's just so off to me. All the blame ultimately lies with Chris though- he's a monster.

I think she for sure lured him in, planted seeds in his head etc. I even think she helped him get them to the oil site. I genuinely don't see how alone he would even be able to do it all in such a small time frame x

I would agree! He’s got a vacant look throughout most of the police interviews, outlining his lack of empathy, which is associated with high scoring on the PCL-R (psychological assessment for psychopathy). As an earlier poster suggested, I don’t think he fits the NPD profile at all. There’s no element of personality disorder for me. Little things highlight psychopathy, e.g putting the girls in an oil tank, to attempt to disguise the smell. He may have had a low IQ, but the murders were definitely premeditated, with some element of “planning”.

Psychopaths are excellent at “mirroring” emotion. I’m sure most people who knew CW would have painted him as a loving father, spouse and neighbour. I believe that’s why this case is so horrific, as people can’t understand what would push someone to murder their entire family?

I don’t believe he’s narcissistic or a sociopath. His flat affect/lack of emotion is the telltale of psychopathy. Within criminal psychology, there’s a lot of focus at the moment on “behavioural” reasons e.g NPD, but for me he doesn’t fit those traits at all, including covert narcissism 🤷‍♀️

I just read up on this thread. I too am appalled by all the victim blaming! Victim blaming isn’t just saying she drove him to it or deserved it. Mentioning she is annoying in a thread about a man KILLING her and her 2 kids in cold blood IS victim blaming.
Imagine if a thread was opened about a girl being violently raped and people would write: “I’m not saying she drove him to it or she was to blame BUT she wore very short skirts and constantly had one night stands.” That IS victim blaming and that is exactly what is being done here. When discussing this monster killing Shannan it shouldn’t even come up whether she was annoying or not. Shame on you. And RIP to this beautiful woman and her 3 angels 😔

Your comparison is ridiculous.

People can have an opinion on someone’s behaviour without wishing brutal murder on them. Many who have commented on her posting weren’t aware she worked for an MLM. I have a lot of people who post MLM scheme on Instagram etc and yep, they are annoying. Does that justify them and their unborn child being murdered... NOPE. I also don’t see anyone even trying to excuse or justify his actions in the same context as saying she was annoying.

I think Shanann showed all the stuff which other MLM people do, everything recorded etc.

It may have shown her as high maintenance when in fact she wasn't...I didn't know her so I can't say what she was really like. All I do know is is that her friends loved her and she sounds like she was lovely.

Even if she was high maintenance it's immaterial as plenty of women out there are like this but their husbands don't kill them.

In a way it's bizarre we discuss Shanann like this as she was the victim here. There's too many people out there who are asking "what did Shanann do which drove CW to annhialate his entire family?" (I don't mean on here...but generally).

The answer is nothing....she did nothing wrong, focusing on her personality etc is not worthwhile because it tells us nothing about why she died.

Instead we need to focus on CW and what HE did to the woman and the children he should have protected. Ask why but forget Shanann in looking for reasons....she didn't cause this,

I don’t think Nichol Kessinger was in on the murders purely because I see no reason why Chris Watts wouldn’t have given her up to the police. However, I’m really uncomfortable with the “Nikki did nothing wrong” brigade (not so much here but online generally). She knew he was married with 2 kids and another on the way - I don’t believe for a second she thought they were separated. She also deleted all of their messages and told her friend to delete any messages discussing him and then googled if there was any way for the police to retrieve them. Not to mention googling how much Amber Frey made from her book. The worst for me though is how she sat playing with her hair and giggling when she said how cute CW was during a police interview about how he had killed his wife and daughters! A normal person would be distraught, no? She’s a creep.

Has anyone heard the phone call he made in prison recently?

He actually thinks he's innocent and thinks it's time for him to be let out as he gave an initial false confession.... Despite confessing over and over since being convicted...

Oh and he's got a new girlfriend 🙄

What kind of women would date that monster? Shocking! I feel sorry for Shannan's family. They've been through enough.

I couldn’t listen to all of that, I mean I suppose I can understand that no one really wants to be in prison but he has absolutely no remorse. He should never ever be allowed out but for what it’s worth I think he can try every appeal he likes but it won’t get him anywhere, I honestly don’t believe he’ll ever be released. He’s unbelievable 😧

This is the one I could find. I read another where he had said he was angry at her for giving birth
