American Murder: The Family Next Door - Netflix

So in 2015, the house was worth $400k(£306k) and they earned $91k(£70k), that is should not put them in debt, it is roughly my numbers. However, I do appreciate they had a lot of medical bills (very different in the US to the UK). Shan'ann got a big pay rise in 2018.

I watched this today and what I really struggled with (apart from a man murdering his wife and babies in cold blood obviously) was that he was so utterly and glaringly thick. I normally associate that kind of evil with a level of intelligence and cunning, not a low IQ moron like Chris Watts. I think the fact that Shannan’s friend turned up at the house and was quick to involve the police quashed any chance of him covering his tracks, but I’m not even sure that he would’ve had he had the chance because he’s so unfathomably stupid. I think he truly believed he would get away with it

Hello everyone,
I got a lot of information about why he did it from the Live Abuse Free YT channel, there is a whole playlist on there, and my own research into narcissism. Chris is a huge narcissist and he killed her to preserve his "perfect image". It is always better to be perceived as a poor widower rather than someone who wanted to leave his pregnant wife and 2 small kids for a mistress. He didn't want the kids because they started to develop their own personalities and did not consider him to be the "God" he felt he was. He didn't bother to develop a relationship with them and was surprised why they preferred their mother's company. He was jealous!
I really don't like how they portrayed Shannan in the Netflix documentary. What I find interesting is that Shannan was in an abusive relationship before Chris, so she was probably more vocal about what she did and didn't like. I think Chris was passive and didn't talk to her about important stuff, that is why she might have seemed to look controlling, but honestly I would be as well. She went away for a few weeks and he stopped communicating, just like that. She would have been just fine if he had told her he wanted a divorce. It would have not been easy financially and stuff but she would have figured it out!!! It was the fact that he didn't bother explaining anything and he kept telling her he loved her and ignoring her, but she KNEW something was wrong, and kept and kept on asking. She wanted to accommodate his needs till the end, like she was writing to someone that she wants to change for Chris because he could have been hurt by some of her behavior. What really frustrates me is how for example on IMDB, the reviewers keep saying how he couldn't handle her being controlling, etc., AS IF HE COULD NOT HAVE TOLD HER THAT in a normal adult conversation. But he wasn't able to handle one! Wasn't able to take the least tiny little bit of criticism and went straight into the narcissistic rage.

I think the term narcissist gets thrown around a little too readily. TCRS wrote a good article on it

I agree that it gets misused a lot, but this is not the case. I've done a lot of academic research about narcissism. Remember Chris is a covert narcissist, i.e. not the loud, "look at me type" grandiose one. Covert narcissists look "normal", almost shy, but are super sensitive to criticism, passive-aggressive, envious and do not respect boundaries.

He was a shy introvert but I don’t see evidence of any of the other traits listed. Im referring to him before the murders not the weeks leading up to them.
didclaimer: this isn’t me saying he is a nice guy I just don’t see how the npd theory fits here.

it was such a sudden turnabout, maybe It was drugs And or a complete mental breakdown?

Do you reckon he would have lied about things beforehand or displayed any odd behaviours? I watched the documentary and it was so sad. Those little girls were just adorable and loved him so much. It does make me think surely he must have lied about stuff before because he's such a weirdopsychopath. The thing which got me, when the police were inside his house asking him to think where they could be, he was just on his phone texting and didn't even act or pretend to be bothered or concerned about his family. He actually couldn't care less but he didn't even put on an act to try and fool any one. It was obvious it was him. He showed no remorse.

When he was texting on his phone looking zoned out I didn’t think he came across as couldn’t be bothered - I think he was freaking out massively. I think he thought he’d have more time before the police were called. He probably found it easier to use his phone than have to deal with eye contact and people asking all sorts of questions. This man avoids any sort of conflict and he would worry about acting normal

Yeah but he wouldn't of dragged her down, you can tell he was obsessed with her. He's made hints in the book "letters from Christopher" it's too obvious to me.
But letters from Christopher are just his thoughts. He lies, lies and lies and nothing to say what he wrote in those that they are true or maybe those letters are true, to him.
If you want to see his personality look for the interview when his family first is missing and the interviewer asks him who bought him that shirt.

Yeah true, we won't ever know the truth. I think shanann screamed and then that woke Bella up, I personally think he killed the girls at home. Then he loaded their bodies, got to work quickly dropped them in the tank and then dug a shallow grave for Shanann. So so so sad, there aren't any words to convey just how terrible.

Probably. Why take them on an hour ride and also on the security footage you cant really see them and he moves quickly for someone who is carrying 2 small kids. He planned this weeks in advance I bet. Innocent lives lost.

I think I may be the only one who really thinks this but I definitely did not see him as a doting father. He seemed very detached in the footage with his kids, almost as if he was operating on auto pilot rather than out of adoration for his kids.

He was very close to Cece. It was clear Cece was a daddy's girl. He's said before he wasn't confident at all when Bella was born but with Cece everything came naturally to him. You can tell Bella was closer to Shannan.

I agree with you about the screaming and waking girls up but I do think the girls were alive in the car as in the full footage of the driveway there is what looks like a young child walk out into driveway and lifted into car. Footage available on YouTube (it’s the full version of the neighbours cctv )
