American Murder: The Family Next Door - Netflix

I think the new girlfriend should be accountable in some way, she co operated with police and is now under witness protection, but I just feel she must have been pushing him , for him to get rid of his entire family like that. She got of lightly. Also I assumed he drowned the girls in the tanks??? Did he not say as he let go of the oldest that's when she said no?
I posted a youtube video earlier breaking a lot of inconsistencies in her story down. Judging by the data, the story they were both telling about their affair is just that - a story. She had googled both Chris and Shannan a year prior to the murders.

Just watched this..credit to the producers, was a really good way of doing this, even though the outcome is awful..

Haven't checked for a thread, but has anyone watched The disappearance of Susan Powell? It's very similar..
Is that the poor lady who's FIL became obsessed with her? If so yes I have seen it, that poor woman! What happened to her boys in the end is horrendous too

I watched this yesterday and just caught up on the thread.
What an evil man.

One thing I wondered about was why was her friend so concerned so early on?
If I had dropped off my friend at 2am and then she wasn’t answering texts or calls in the morning, I’d assume she was having a lie in. What was it that made her friend contact the police so soon? I think she said Shanann had been distraught that weekend. Perhaps she was concerned that she might commit suicide because I can’t see any other reason why the police would rush over so soon. This wasn’t really explained in the documentary.

I also think he killed the girls at home before he killed Shanann. When Shanann was texting him from the airport, she asked where the girls were. He replied that they were asleep. I think they were already dead then.

I found their wedding video so sad. Shanann’s family clearly adored Chris so he was either a very good actor or he changed greatly after the marriage. His mother clearly didn’t think Shanann was good enough for her son. He then loses 180lbs which is a huge amount. Did I mishear the amount because that’s over a 12 stone loss? He looked overweight at their wedding but not obese. After the weight loss I think he changed and he thought he could do better too.

The way he treated them after death was truly despicable. I wouldn't be able to stand by my son if he’d done that so it says a lot about his mother too that she remains so deluded about what he has done.
Shanann was meant to have a doctor's appointment to do with the baby the next morning at 9 am, she said she may need a lift from her friend and would let her know. Her friend never heard from Shanann and tried to contact her, her friend then found out she never showed up to the doctor's appointment and that wasn't like her at all.

The girl friend definitely had more to do with it all, she never once said shananns or the girls names. She detached herself from them as real people imo. Watch the youvideo someone else just posted about her and you'll soon see how guilty she seems.

Chris' mum apparently was extremely controlling with him, he was abit of an incel according to all accounts until he met shanann. He went from one controlling woman to another (shanann admitted she could be a nightmare) and then I think nicol was the next one. Nicol mentioning she wanted to give Chris his first born son i reckon planted the seed to get rid of them all.

I do think shanann was a sleep when he killed her, I think she was a strong person personality wise, I dont she would just lay there without doing some damage to him.
She was driven, yes annoying with the constant posts etc but she was always pretty honest from what I saw that they were her faults 🤷‍♀️ she was fighting for her family and he just didn't want the hassle of them

I think I may be the only one who really thinks this but I definitely did not see him as a doting father. He seemed very detached in the footage with his kids, almost as if he was operating on auto pilot rather than out of adoration for his kids.

I noticed it as well. On all of the vacation videos with the kids, he seemed very cold and like he wished he was elsewhere.

Weren’t those videos from North Carolina? When they were having marital problems , like the video from Myrtle Beach. In their wedding video he seemed genuinely happy.

i mean, he clearly has some sort of narcissistic personality disorder so this was always under the surface, he just covered it up I think

Imo the documentary touched on quite how calculated this murder was, but didn’t delve into it deep enough.
This wasn’t a snap rash decision, remember he withdrew the girls from school, he arranged a meeting to sell the house etc.
This was not only completely premeditated but he thought he was going to get away with it and just live a notmal life! So chilling!
This is what really shocked me!!! He killed them then called up the school, estate agents etc! Bizarre

Shan'ann missed a gynae appt at 9am and then a work meeting, so the friend would have been concerned.
My ununderstanding from the documenrary is that he drove the body with the two girls (who were alive and asking what was wrong with mummy) to the site where he buried the body in a shallow grave, smothered the girls (not sure in what order) and put them in the oil tanks. They were dead when he put them in, hence no oil in their lungs.

No you are not alone , one of the things the Real Crime Profile podcast noted was that he seemed more detached than Shanann, however it was subtle so many people may have missed it. I will be honest and say I wouldn't have noticed until it was pointed out.

Hello everyone,
I got a lot of information about why he did it from the Live Abuse Free YT channel, there is a whole playlist on there, and my own research into narcissism. Chris is a huge narcissist and he killed her to preserve his "perfect image". It is always better to be perceived as a poor widower rather than someone who wanted to leave his pregnant wife and 2 small kids for a mistress. He didn't want the kids because they started to develop their own personalities and did not consider him to be the "God" he felt he was. He didn't bother to develop a relationship with them and was surprised why they preferred their mother's company. He was jealous!
I really don't like how they portrayed Shannan in the Netflix documentary. What I find interesting is that Shannan was in an abusive relationship before Chris, so she was probably more vocal about what she did and didn't like. I think Chris was passive and didn't talk to her about important stuff, that is why she might have seemed to look controlling, but honestly I would be as well. She went away for a few weeks and he stopped communicating, just like that. She would have been just fine if he had told her he wanted a divorce. It would have not been easy financially and stuff but she would have figured it out!!! It was the fact that he didn't bother explaining anything and he kept telling her he loved her and ignoring her, but she KNEW something was wrong, and kept and kept on asking. She wanted to accommodate his needs till the end, like she was writing to someone that she wants to change for Chris because he could have been hurt by some of her behavior. What really frustrates me is how for example on IMDB, the reviewers keep saying how he couldn't handle her being controlling, etc., AS IF HE COULD NOT HAVE TOLD HER THAT in a normal adult conversation. But he wasn't able to handle one! Wasn't able to take the least tiny little bit of criticism and went straight into the narcissistic rage.

Just on the flip side as devils advocate here... if she found him controlling would she have told him? As you saying that he could have just told her that in an adult conversation. But often when people feel they’re being controlled they don’t feel comfortable saying it, that’s how people end up stuck in abusive relationships. I am not for any second saying that she was abusivr, I’m jusr highlighting that there’s a bit of a gender difference here. If a woman finds a man controlling it would be seen as risky to confront them about it.

What I meant is that we are talking about two adults here, not two teenagers. And the fact that she was willing to change for him and accommodate his needs tells me that she wasn't the narcissist in the relationship.

I honestly don't know what to think. I guess I've always been a skeptic. I have a very unpopular opinion about this case that I'm sure many won't share. This whole event feels very staged from beginning to end like watching someone's nightmare or a suspense movie. Then there's all these videos still out there up until the m'fkin INTERROGATION with no record of a Chris Watts in a prison cell somewhere. The arresting officer is called detective CODER?! Lmao. Maybe its just me but if there's one case which blurs the line between fiction/reality to this magnitude its probably this one.
